Catching up

Ugh! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve had time to update this. Guess it’s time to start from the beginning as I remember it…

Well, Kara and I survived our girl’s week without Brent (and I didn't even go anymore insane than I already am!). I know the Lord was watching over me that week and for that I am so grateful! Kara did an amazing job of sleeping through the night, now we aren’t to the point of an 8:00 pm bedtime or anything quite so nice yet. However, when she was put down at her typical bedtime, she did great about sleeping through the night until around 6:00 the next morning. Unfortunately, I was not able to sleep quite so well without Brent in the bed with me. Only plus, it gave me more of the coolness of the bed to enjoy. (You know that cold you feel when you put your feet inside the bed for the first time at night? I sooo love that cold!) Kara also had a great week where she wasn’t fussy during the day. This allowed for me to get all the carpets clean in the house like I wanted that week, get the rest of my housework done and still have tons of time to play with her. With the weather was warming up, we found time throughout the week to take walks in the park. As we did this, it was discovered that Kara loves the outdoors and she found the grass extremely fascinating.

As the week went on, Kara’s crawling has led her to discover the stairs at our entryway. While cleaning the carpet I turned around to see her trying to crawl them and being able to stand up against them. Thinking that we were far off from her getting up the stairs I found this cute and snapped a quick picture to help me not forget this stage of her life.

In addition to standing up against the stairs, on April 7th when I put Kara down to bed she fussed a bit at first, which is nothing out of the ordinary, so I left the room and went in to use the bathroom. When I was done, I noticed that Kara was all quiet, seeing as I was in the bathroom for no more than 2 minutes I knew something was up. I opened her door to see her standing up in her crib. Talk about giving me a heart attack!!! I freaked out with all sorts of thoughts racing in my mind about how she was going to just climb right out or even worse fall out. All rational thought left my mind, and after trying to get her to stay in her crib without standing up against the railing and failing miserably we ended up having a sleepover for the night in my bed. Needless to say, when Brent got home, one of the first things we did was lower the mattress in the crib.

The last blessing from the Lord before Brent got home came that Saturday morning when I was trying to finish up my Relief Society lesson for the week and Kara slept until I pressed the print button on my lesson and at that moment she stirred, waking up. Talk about perfect timing!

When Brent got home, he scored all sorts of good brownie points by acknowledging and kissing me prior to focusing Kara at the airport. I knew he missed me, but expected to be chopped liver at the airport as I thought he’d focus his attention on Kara with me second. It was a pleasant surprise to find that I was wrong. And a sweeter scene I have rarely seen than when Brent played with Kara once we got him home.

As Brent has been home and life has returned to what I refer to as normal. As that has happened Kara has turned into my helper in the kitchen. Having discovered what has been the best use for the Bumbo at our house, I’ll put it up on the counter when I’m cooking and Kara will help me out, banging a mixing spoon I’ll give her, or trying to eat measuring spoons. When the blender, mixer or other appliance turns on though, she is focused on the appliance, fascinated by the sound and the movement.

Kara has been eating more and more and we are now at the end of the Stage 1 baby foods and in the next couple of days we will be starting on Stage 2 foods. It’s easy to see that she does enjoy her food.

On Monday the 18th, while waiting for friends to come over for FHE Brent and I were at the entryway talking about who knows what when he noticed Kara had climbed up the first of the entry way stairs. I opened the front door, stepping outside to coax Kara up the other step and sure enough - she did it! Our baby girl crawled up the stairs. As soon as she was done, we put her back down to try and video her stair climbing adventure, but she was going to have none of that and refused to climb them a second time. The milestones she keeps hitting now are such a mixed blessing for me. I'm proud and thrilled for all she is able to do, but find it bittersweet as it means she is growing up. I'm not ready for the little girl who couldn't hold up her head 7 short months ago to be crawling, climbing, teething, etc. As I put her 3-6 month baby clothes the other day it broke my heart. Someone, please, tell me how to stop her from growing up!!!

I’ve been itching for spring to come for months now and finally it is here! Our garden is started with our seedlings growing in the garden, waiting to be placed in the ground. Our herbs are planted, indoors this year, and the grill is cleaned and ready to go.

Spring also means birds come back to the area and with that, Pixie shares one of my favorite sounds with me. She'll stand at a window or door - look out at a bird and yap. Her yap is a cute little "yap ... yap, yap, yap" It is the type of sound that can soothe my spirit and cheer me up if I'm down. One of these days, I'm hoping I can get this on video so I won't forget her sweet face and beautiful voice. Only drawback to her yapping at the birds and being our garden guard kitty is that sometimes the birds don't listen to her yap warning. This means (as happened Sunday when we came home from church) that she brings us the bird she caught. I know I shouldn't praise her for killing the bird and bringing it along with all the feathers scattered everywhere into the house, but she's so cute and so proud, I can't help but be proud.

With Kara taking after me in the fact that she loves it outdoors we are spending more and more time playing on the grass or just being outdoors - enjoying every minute of it.

Here at the Nutt house, we can’t wait for Easter this weekend and the special time of year that it is. We would like to wish a Happy Easter to each and every one of you!!!
