First off, along with corn dogs our little Nutt's tried their first Funnel Cakes Friday night. As expected, Kaden eagerly dove right in and enjoyed each morsel and each sticky cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar finger lick he could sneak in. Given his love of anything sweet this did not surprise me. Kara, true to form was apprehensive about trying a new food. After some gentle coaxing and words of encouragement she finally gave it a try. *Mind you, I did not expect her to eat the whole thing, merely, I don't like her saying she doesn't like something before at least trying it once. This is something we continue to work on. Well, after Kara tried a small sliver of the cinnamon sugar covered funnel cake (she enjoys the taste of cinnamon sugar on toast so I knew this would be the one she'd go for) she was hooked and enjoyed each subsequent bite until she was too full to eat anymore. Observing the faces of both Kara and Kaden when they try knew foods or experiences is something that will forever bring me great joy.
The other moment from Friday night that I do not wish to forget came when Kara was sitting on my lap during the pioneer play. A scene came up showing how some individuals died along the way, Kara questioned what happened and after whispering to her how a family member died and the remaining family members had to bury them quickly so they could keep moving her eyes swelled with tears. She tenderly expressed how she didn't want anyone to die. I took that moment to give her a hug and in greater detail explain what happened and how thanks to the sacrifices of the pioneers we are in a land filled with temples where we can be sealed to our family members for not just this lifetime but for all eternity. The peace that came over her with this knowledge was remarkably visible as I believe the Holy Ghost confirmed the truthfulness of this to her and provided her with peace. To witness the singular moment when she started to gain an understanding and appreciation of what the pioneers went through is a memory I hope to remember for all time.
Lastly, today, while out and about we stopped at a bakery for a treat. Kara noticed the wedding cakes on display and in a very serious tone explained to me that when she gets married and throws her bouquet she does not want me to catch it, she wants me to put my arms down because she doesn't want me to marry anyone else. OH!!! How I love this tender, insightful, sweet princess of mine!!!
