Goofy Fun, Appliance Drama and Derby Cars

Wow!  It seems like a long time since last Sunday evening.  As I glance back at the pictures of our week, I can’t help but reflect how long ago the events from Monday seem.  I take that as a good thing since it means we were not bored all week long.
Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which meant that the little Nutts didn’t have school for the day.  We chose to celebrate this event with some fun activity time.  Instead of hitting up one of our go to places in the valley, we switched gears and engaged in a few different events.  Our day started with a stop at Tumbleweed Park where the kiddos relished in some playground time at a park we haven’t played at in literally a couple years.  Flashbacks of the park flooded Kara as we started walking toward the playground and she quickly remembered how much she enjoyed the zip line, making that our first stop.  After some zip lining time the kiddos conquered their own fears as they climbed a mini rock mountain to the top where after they realized everything was going to be fine they jumped down into my arms with requests quickly coming in for repeat climbs.  After my mom heart was ready for a break from the climbing we headed to the jungle gym type area where the kiddos mimicked moves they’ve seen on shows such as American Ninja Warrior and Ultimate Beast Master – scaling walls, climbing around, running from obstacle to obstacle and so forth.  Once we were ready for a change of scenery, it was time for some tire swing action before the calls of the climbing area overtook the kiddos and we were back at it.
Zipping back and forth was a favorite for lil' miss

The climb up really was higher than this view makes it look

She made it to the top!

A quick nervous smile before she really started enjoying herself

Two little Nutt's up on a rock!

She enjoyed being queen of the smaller climbing mountain too

He was pleased as punch to climb to the top and have
his turn as king of the rock throne!

Love these two

In all their goofiness

"Mom, watch me climb around this without touching the ground
and take my picture too!"

Taa-Daa!

Look at me, no hands!

Now no feet

Love the smiles

Love the fun they have!

Crazy elated to ride this little pony

This boy causes my heart to stop on a daily basis

He loved the zip lining fun as much as his "sissy" did

After we were done at the park it was time for some lunch and we treated ourselves to an outdoor picnic at Joe’s Farm Grill where rolling down the grass was almost as much fun as the lunch itself!

So happy to get a lollipop with his lunch!

This goofball cannot roll straight to save his life

Once we were done with lunch, we headed to pick up a treat before going home when we noticed the Gilbert Riparian Preserve on our drive.  Seeing as we are firm believers in enjoying the journey not just the destination and we did have a few spare minutes we turned right and pulled into the parking lot to check out the preserve.  Oh my goodness!  What a hidden gem we found!  The kiddos and I loved walking the trails, checking out the ducks and turtles in the pond and discovering the observatory we plan to go back to before ending our short visit with some climbing and playtime at the play area.  We have never been to the Preserve before but the Nutt House certainly plans to go back!

Duck watching

One crazy lil' man

She has seriously started being the biggest goof!

This look... this smile... just this!

They were so happy to discover the "CTR Shields"

May the love they feel for each other always stay so strong!

Monday was a fantastic day for the Nutt House, full of fun, relaxation, and adventure… fun right up to the end when we ran into one not so small snag… our dishwasher died!  We knew it was having some problems but had hoped the repair guy that was coming out Wednesday would be able to work some magic and it would keep on going but nope.  The darn thing would not even turn on.  So, with a heavy sigh, Brent and I went dishwasher shopping during his lunch hour on Tuesday and I realized how spoiled I have been to not have to wash dishes by hand all the time.  Getting to wash dishes by hand multiple times every day of the week led me to ponder a few thoughts 1st) I had to be strong and not change every meal to cereal or sandwiches just to avoid dish duty.  2nd) I had flashbacks to my childhood where my parents really believed they had 4 dishwashers in us 4 kids and if we didn’t get every dish perfectly clean (by hand mind you) we’d have to wash EVERY SINGLE DISH in the house again.  I was paranoid I was going to have to do this!  Even though it’s my house, my dishes, and my rules… still… the fear was there people… the fear lives on these multiple decades later!  3rd) I really am grateful I live when I do when dishwashers are more commonplace than a luxury item.  Fast forward to end of the week and we had a new dishwasher delivered when Brent with some friends got it all installed and working.  I am beyond happy to have a working dishwasher again and to get those dishwashing hours back in my day!
So. Many. Dishes!!!  So many!!!

This new machine is a beaut!

Even though the dishwasher was dead, Tuesday brought a ray of happiness as the headboard we had made the week before was installed in our bedroom.  I am so much in love with the headboard, its rustic look, how it’s perfect for what I wanted, how well it works in the space and that we were able to make it ourselves!!!  I’m totally tooting my own horn I know, but I love it and am so proud of it!
Love this!

Friday night the little kiddos and myself headed over to the school for a painting night where they were each able to paint their own canvas with a winter glow in the dark scene.  What a fantastic event!  This was the first time our school hosted such an event so we weren’t sure what to expect but the evening turned out great.  Witnessing our little Nutts express their creative sides and their unique individualism was such a delight.  Kaden, who hasn’t yet mastered how to do things in a smaller scale, added every detail he could think of while Kara was more specific with what she added to her painting.  At the end of the night, we were all happy with the event and the artwork we were able to bring home and now have hanging in our hallway.  The Nutt House will excitedly sign up for a painting night again when offered at the school.
So happy to get started

So serious about adding snow to his work

Time for a layer of glitter

Parachute drying of layers is the only way to go!

Having so much fun bringing out her inner artist as she paints a polar bear

His final masterpiece!

Her final masterpiece!

An amazing group of artists

Proudly hanging on the wall

While it may seem most of the events of the week involved or focused on just the little kiddos and myself that wasn’t the case for everything.  Saturday brought the Pine Wood Derby that Brent put on, as he is still Cubmaster in our ward.  The evening turned out so well!  All the children at the event had a good time racing and cheering each other on, the adults enjoyed the evening, there was great support from so many wonderful individuals, everything looked good and most importantly… there were no tears over the results!  I am certain this is because this year boys took the top 3 places in the racing, nevertheless, all – boys and girls alike had a great evening!  Brent did a fantastic job as he does each year and I am so proud of how hard he works at and how much he enjoys his calling as Cubmaster.  Kaden was thrilled to join in on the action this year as Brent had everything ready to go with a couple hours to spare.  Because of this, while we were sitting at the church Brent cracked open a Pine Wood Derby kit and went to work making a rudimentary Pine Wood Derby car for Kaden to race.  After it was built Kaden quickly grabbed the markers we had brought and colored his car before jetting off to the track so he could race his car again and again and again.  Kaden had so much fun and had already informed Brent of how he wants his car designed for next year’s race!
A focused look as his car races down the track

The car with the yellow dot sticker was Kaden's car

Happy scouts make for a happy Cubmaster!

Ending/beginning our week with church, family counsel, family home evening and some game time was either the cherry on top or the foundation for the new week that starts us off right that this Nutt-y group needs to keep our Nutt-y lives in check and that is exactly what we savored today!  The Nutt House had a fantastically Nutt-y week - just the kind that we adore!  We cannot wait to see what this next week will bring.
Tonight's games...  Scrabble Jr., Pit and War
