While chasing Kara around the yard last week I started reflecting on the simple things that happened throughout the week that make life worthwhile.
At the beginning of the week I had my first crocheting lesson. Woo hoo!! I don’t know much yet, but I can make a chain and do a single crochet stitch. If I practice what I learned from today’s lesson, I can go backwards so I don’t make a thing but very long scarf. I’m so excited! I’ve wanted to discover and develop more talents and it feels good to get started on this.
Tuesday night I enjoyed a pampering evening put on by the Young Women in our ward. Visiting with friends, pedicures, yummy treats, and babysitting – all made for an outstanding evening.
Wednesday my wonderful husband took me for a night out at the temple. For the first time since Kara was born we were able to enjoy an endowment session together. Oh! How wonderful, peaceful, and needed was this night. It’s been hard to leave Kara for a three hour block but I’m so glad we did. I feel rejuvenated, refocused, and closer to both my Heavenly Father and my wonderful husband thanks to this night.
Friday night our family went to the drive-in theater to see Pirates of the Caribbean. This was also a first since Kara’s birth – first time to see a movie. What a fun evening. The car looks scary (the windows look like a puppy had its nose against them all night) and Kara didn’t make it through the movie, but we really enjoyed the night. On a side note, the movie gave us a chance to see somewhat how challenging our plane ride to Phoenix later this week may be. I can safely say the plane ride will be an adventure.
In addition to these specific events of the week, the week was full of less specific events that added to the week - we saw plants start to break free from the ground in our garden and watched as Kara discovered how to bounce up and down on her bum.
As crazy, overwhelming, or dull as life can get - this week I enjoyed
– The moments I was blessed with when my daughter soaked my outfit as she splashed in the bath, or when I heard her rare giggles as I blew on her neck, or the smile she gave when chasing us around the house.
– The times when I make my husband smile with his eyes as I teased him, or when I laid on the floor with him just hearing about his day, or the warmth I felt in my heart as I observed him kneeling to pray – hearing him read scriptures or share his knowledge of the gospel.
– Not to be left out, I enjoyed coming up with a fun handout idea for the women I visiting teach, cooking something new for dinner that was successful, practicing a new talent, and the burn of a good workout.
These simple moments confirm for me that motherhood is the greatest calling/job of my life, my marriage is the greatest and most rewarding adventure of my life, and the me focused items show me I’m still a work in progress in regards to what I like and who I am and I wouldn’t change my for anything!
As we at the Nutt House prepare to go to Phoenix to enjoy time with family that we haven’t seen in way too long we wish you a wonderful week and hope you find time to appreciate the small and simple moments of life!
