My goodness!!! What a crazy couple of weeks we’ve had at the Nutt House!
We went to Phoenix for a Memorial Day weekend vacation to relax and celebrate Brent’s birthday. Instead of the nice relaxing weekend we anticipated we ended up having a weekend of life changing news and firsts for Kara.
We arrived in Phoenix Wednesday evening and Thursday morning Brent had a face to face interview for a job he’d previously completed a phone interview for. While we thought he’d do well on the interview we never expected what happened… The company loved Brent so much (and I must say – what is not to love???) that the next day they offered Brent a job in Phoenix!! Thursday, after the interview things had gone so well that we contacted a realtor and started making plans to look at houses – just in case something happened and so we knew what we’d be looking at. We spent Friday looking at houses (the day Brent got the great news) and didn’t have much luck finding anything we fell in love with. So, when Brent took off Saturday to visit family with his dad and Kara instead of going for pedicures and a girl day like JD and I had planned we thought we’d go look at a few more houses and do the pedicures later in the day or another day if needed. I’m so glad we did!!! We picked 8 houses to see on Saturday and the 2nd house we went to was THE ONE! After seeing that beautiful 3 bedroom, move-in ready home I spent the rest of the day comparing all other houses to that one and just knew it was where we were meant to be. After Brent had a chance to go in the home and we did some talking about if the house would address my ever present storage concerns we decided to make an offer on the house. Monday morning we put an offer on the house – and before we left Tuesday to head back to Reno we heard back that our offer was accepted!!!
Below is a picture of Brent and me in front of what we hope is our new home (as I don’t want to jinx the deal I’m hiding the house numbers until we’ve actually closed on the house).
Phew! Talk about a crazy weekend for us! We went down for relaxation and left with a new job and new home in a new town – it all seems surreal to me, and will somewhat remain that way until I see our current home all boxed up and we are getting ready to head to Phoenix. While this move is such a blessing to us in so many ways, it is not without its challenges. The biggest one being that Brent has to start work on June 15th – so he will be leaving for Phoenix at the end of this week; whereas Kara and I will remain in Reno until the house closes around July 20th.
Amid all the chaos of the job and house hunting we were able to enjoy some great family time. Brent and his dad took Kara were able to go visit a very dear and close Great-Aunt of his. Brent has such love and admiration for this lady – I’m glad they had this chance. (His Great-Aunt reminds me of my Grandma Lee – she is from a different generation, very talented, and full of life). While they were visiting family - Brent, his dad, our little angel Kara (who was an angel during the visit) and Brent’s Great-Aunt were able to take a priceless four-generation picture.
Monday we were preparing for a Memorial Day party at Brent’s dad’s house and as we prepped for the party – Kara was able to have her toenails painted for the first time. They look so adorable!
Where Kara’s hair was longer on one side than the other, she had one longer piece in front and one in back, we decided to do something about it and Kara got her first hair cut at the party. It took some maneuvering as Kara squirmed everywhere, but Brent’s cousin who is an amazing hair dresser did a fantastic job on Kara’s hair!
Kara enjoyed her food at the party, where she tried watermelon and grabbed a piece of steak which she had fun with.
While in Phoenix Kara learned how to waive hello/good-bye which she energetically did with both hands to her Grandma Gigi (and with just one hand to most of the rest of us). After a good plane ride back home (Kara also had a good plane ride to Phoenix) it was time to prep for yet another busy week.
Brent and I had been asked to teach Dutch oven cooking to our ward’s Relief Society. When we had gotten this call we were smart enough to call in an expert – and asked my parents to come up to help. Where my mind was going in hundreds of directions with the upcoming move having my dad to help with the cooking and my mom to help with Kara was an even greater blessing than we had anticipated it being. The cooking demonstration was a success and the food was loved!
Not to let her week in Phoenix be the only exciting week she’s had recently when my parents were in town Kara started clapping her hands together. We are not too far from patty-cake and other such hand/finger games! Kara also enjoyed her first caffeinated beverage – and of course, she wouldn’t be her Grandpa Lang’s granddaughter if that first drink wasn’t Pepsi.
Here at the Nutt House we are thankful for family and friends– for all of their love, support, guidance and help as we continue on the adventure that is our lives.

What a whirl wind visit. Glad you found what you feel will work for you, your family and your storage needs.
ReplyDeleteDoes your dad still cake his food in pepper?
He does! - Just his though, that for some I say luckily!
ReplyDeleteI believe he rubbed off on my brother. He doesn't cake it on quite as bad-close though.
