As we have been making the transition to our new home and new life here in Phoenix we have decided to try to set apart Saturday’s for family day whenever possible. This is a day where we aren’t doing house work, yard work, errands, etc. if we can help it. It’s a day to do things together and enjoy the time we can before life rushes back off in multiple directions. So far, we’ve been fairly successful with our family days and have enjoyed the time we’ve spent together and the memories we’ve been creating.
The first family day was spent driving around Phoenix with Brent showing me around, explaining where we were, how we got there, and many other things that, sad to say – went in one ear and didn’t even make it to the other before they were out. I can say though, I can get around fairly well – having not gotten lost once!! Woo hoo!!!
On our second family day we went to the Heard Museum. A museum focused on the history and culture of the Native American tribes that were here in Arizona long before they were moved to reservations and such. It was a wonderful place with so many exhibits to see and so much to learn about! One of my favorite parts is that the museum was child-friendly with many areas containing projects for children to help them learn more about the Native American’s from both an interactive and do-it-yourself crafts perspective. As Kara gets a little bit older, I cannot wait to take her back, letting her bead the necklace, identify which word is being said in the different dialects we can hear spoken, observe the doll collections, etc. For now, we have just a couple pictures that we were able to snap while in the museum (we weren’t sure where we could and could not take pictures so we didn’t take too many)
Isn't the glass wall behind Brent and Kara just beautiful in this picture? Oh! It was sooo gorgeous!!
In partial thanks to Groupon we were able to spend this past Saturday’s family day at the Sealife Aquarium. Having grown up in a very landlocked state where most of the fish I saw in real life were either of the goldfish or guppy types or the trout types I’ve been drawn to the ocean and the wonderful creatures that live there. This aquarium was really designed with children in mind as we found that for Brent and I many of the exhibits were lower than our eye level. For Kara, she wasn’t too sure what to think at first, but after she was able to put her hand in the water when we touched the star fish her fears dissipated and she started enjoying all that was there. She’d point out the fish, and follow them with her eyes as they swam past. Oh! It was a great place and one that I cannot wait to go back to time and time again as Kara grows and can appreciate what is there even more!
Though not a Saturday family adventure – I’d be remiss if I did not write about the adventure Brent and I had on our first date here in Phoenix. We were so excited to get some us time, so after leaving Kara is the very loving hands of her grandparents we were off! Not sure exactly what we were going to do or where we were going to go, other than we were hungry so dinner was definitely on the agenda for our little romantic night away. When we were stopped at a red light – there it was – the BUMP that we were not expecting as we were rear ended! To keep a long story short – the car isn’t damaged too badly and we are going to the chiropractor to get ourselves back to being as good as new. What a start to a first date night in Phoenix, right?
We are happy, excited and blessed to be able to put aside everything else at this stage of our lives and focus our Saturdays on Nutt-y activities.
