Life's Activities

So many fun events happened while I was on hiatus from updating my blog (sounds so much better than admitting I was lazy and just didn’t get it done, right?) and I wanted to capture them before they were long forgotten so I am going to blend them all into one entry.
A little while back we were blessed with the chance to take Kara to her first play!  Thanks to being related to one of the performers we were able to get fantastic front row seats to a children’s version of Beauty and the Beast that was performed at the Hale Theater in Gilbert.  I was somewhat apprehensive of taking Kara to a play (part of the reason we wanted seats close to an exit), however where it was a children’s play I felt a little better about going and the potential for Little Miss Fussy Britches to make an appearance in my sweet angelic Kara-bears body.  Low and behold – I was wrong!!!  Miss Fussy Britches didn’t even think about joining us at the play – we had the sweet, angelic Kara-bear the whole time!  Kara was enthralled with the whole play.  She followed the actors around the stage with her eyes and head.  She bopped to the music.  She was the perfect theater patron!  I cannot wait to introduce Kara to additional forms of art (ballet, symphony, opera {if I’m lucky}) and additional trips to the theater.

Kara has kept busy lately as she has been developing her skills in the kitchen.  She has helped bake breads and cookies recently and been a big help making more than one dinner.  When we were making pumpkin banana bread Kara was given the job of measuring in the flour.  If you can’t tell, the look on her face is that of complete concentration and though there was a bit of a mess she took her job ever so seriously and at the end of the day, the bread and cookies turned out totally scrumptious.

Along with her new skills as a baker Kara has been fine tuning her chef skills by helping to make dinner more and more.  About a month ago she was helping to put some cut up veggies in the sauté pan – as she did, the squash and zucchini went in without a hitch, and the onion started off the same way, until Kara decided it would be better to take the onion pieces back out and munch on them instead.  It turns out; Kara is quite the onion connoisseur and will eat them raw, sautéed, fried in rings – just about any way that she can.

It has been wonderful, yet at the same time nerve-wracking to watch as Kara is becoming more and more adventurous.  She tries climbing higher and higher every day, running around everywhere – including out in the street (when she can slip away long enough), and Kara has been discovering her love of the water more and more.  When presented with the opportunity she has been moving closer to the water at Grandma Gigi’s pool; this has included not only walking around the side of pool, but walking right into the water.  Fortunately, Grandma Gigi has been there each time to grab Kara before she goes too far under, allowing her to go under just far enough to start to learn about the water.  Under Gigi’s watchful eye, Kara has spent more time splashing in the pool, getting dunked, and gaining a love for and an appreciation for the water.

One evening in early October while out with Grandpa Doc and Daddy, Kara was able to enjoy her first sushi roll.  All reports were that Kara had fun with and enjoyed the roll.

With cousins in town for the wedding we had on Halloween it was decided a trip to the Science Museum was in order.  While our Big Nutt seemed to enjoy the Pirates exhibit the most (it was pretty cool), it was the interactive human body exhibit that captured the attention and brought out the smiles of our little Kara Nutt.

She could have spent hours in the human heart.

As much as she enjoyed the stomach slide, the noises it made weren’t as appealing.

Even with all her other activities Kara found the time to help her parents make apple sauce, apple juice, dried apple slices, and apple fruit leather.  Just as a heads up – do not try to take over the job of peeling and coring the apples – that IS Kara’s job!

As the Nutt House has been busy with all sorts of pursuits, we’ve made certain that we have stopped long enough during each activity to enjoy each other’s company and recognize how blessed we are.
We hope that each of you are able to enjoy the everyday blessings of life!
