What a busy fall we had at the Nutt House! While individual days may seem not that
exciting to those that are not Nutts and when the question is asked so what are
you guys up to? The answer given can easily be “oh, not much – just the same
ole’ stuff, you know” but, when a step back is taken and we truly reflect on
what our Nutt-y family has been up to.
We continue to be blessed with many grand adventures, new experiences,
and treasured memories. Now, as we
prepare for Christmas and all that this special time of year has to offer it is
with great excitement that I finally update the Nutt House blog (there is a
heaping dose of disgust/disbelief that yet again I am as far behind as I am in
updates).
The first and most important milestone in our Nutt-y lives
since our last update hands down is Kara’s birthday. It is hard to believe that our little girl is
three years old. Whereas days drag on and
on while in the middle of them looking back on weeks, months, and a year it is
as if time was stolen by a thief in the dead of night. Something that was once there is not
anymore. No longer is Kara the little
girl that wants mommy to pick out what clothes she is going to wear each
morning, let alone help her get dressed.
She is no longer the little girl who wouldn't think about crossing the
street without mom’s hand. At the
beautiful age of three Kara is a strong-willed, stubborn, independent, sure of
herself, giving, inquisitive girl.
Before falling asleep each and every night Kara now asks “what am I
going to do tomorrow mom?” always needing to know the game plan and what is
coming up next. She is now the girl who
excitedly runs towards her friends greeting them with a hug (and a kiss if they’ll
let her), she is the big sister Kaden attempts to emulate at every available
instance. She knows what she wants, what
she likes, and just as much what she doesn't like or want. Kara does not like sauce on anything – not on
pizza, pasta, pancakes, French fries, any meal that would come with a
sauces. She doesn't like cheese on her
food. She does like pancakes, especially
if they are shaped like Minnie Mouse and she can dip them in syrup. She likes ranch with her chicken nuggets, but
not on them. She likes cheese bread but
will not eat pizza. She will eat macaroni
and cheese with veggies added but will not eat veggies if they have a sauce or
cheese on them. She likes her sandwiches
deconstructed where she can take her bread pieces and dip it in her peanut
butter and jam independently. Kara likes
pink, if it was up to her the world would be a pink place full of glitter,
sparkles, and princesses. She enjoys
stories always wanting to be read to, but does not want to sit down for 5 minutes
to learn what the letter “A” looks like.
She enjoys the outdoors, whether it is picking the flowers and leaves
from the plants outback, going for a ride on her big wheel, playing at the park
it doesn't matter, if it’s outside she’s enjoying it and never wants the fun to
end. Kara is afraid of butterflies and
lady bugs but eagerly wants to feed a giraffe or ride a horse. Kara loves all things princess related,
specifically any and all Disney princesses.
Kara is sensitive and a stern
voice or denial of giving a hug can bring tears to her eyes. She’s loving and believes a good hug can cure
most anything. Kara is an inspiration to
me inspiring me to be a better person daily.
I admire the joy she has about life, the pleasure she gets from hearing
the plans for the next day or daddy’s car pulling up at the end of the
day. Don’t get me wrong – Kara has her
moments, whether she’s pushing Kaden down, talking back to her mom (in the same
voice I use on her), or saying “no” to her dad.
Kara also can be stubborn refusing to do something she doesn't want to
do. Thankfully, that is a character
trait that she inherited from me, which means I have a few more years practice
on her at being stubborn and while she has put a few dents in my mom armor,
there are no holes in it yet and I don’t given in as easily as she’d like me to… not yet anyway.
The many faces of Kara:
Kara was fortunate enough to have three birthday
celebrations this past year. Grammy and
Papa (Brent’s mom and step-dad) were in town right before Kara’s birthday so we
had our first celebration then. Of
course, to compliment the princess that she is a special princess cake was made
for her. Fast forward a couple days and
we celebrated again with Gigi, with yet another princess cake. A couple days later we found ourselves in St.
George where she got to celebrate again this time with Grandpa, Grandma, Aunts,
an Uncle and some cousins. Our sweet
princess was blessed with all the love in the world for her birthday and what
better present could there be? Well, in
the eyes of our now three year old – princess clothes, princess make-up,
princess shoes, a princess book and a few other items that thankfully she did get.
