Checkers anyone?

Another week has come and gone for the Nutt House.  This past week has been a week of learning.
Kara learning to play checkers *and beating me in her first game!!  To play, we laid out the board and I talked her through the potential moves.  She would then make the choice for herself and after  a few moves I thought to myself "seriously!  I'm going to loose to a 4 year old?!!?" and sure enough, I lost to a 4 year old.  Albeit a super cute and crazy smart one, but still!

Note there is just one black king left on the board *I was black!!

We've also had lots of story time at our house.  Both Kaden and Kara enjoy story time over most anything, a trait I hope they never loose.  In addition to our regular reading this week they have enjoyed snuggling up with Brent to listen as he reads to them the life story of his grandfather.  I don't know which I've enjoyed more, watching the bonds between Brent and the little Nutts or Brent's reactions as he has discovered new to him information about his grandfather.

This past week Kara did extremely well at dance class which promptly led her to ask for a treat.  Kaden wasn't much up for one so after a slight suggestion of seeing if Kara and Brent wanted to go together Kara squealed in delight at going on a date with daddy.  This little Nutt loves her dad and loves going on dates with either of us.

Kaden has taken to teaching me patience this past week.  After the whole 2-3 minutes it takes for him to mess up his bedroom and then spend several hours enjoying playing with all of the dumped out toys it becomes time to clean up.  With Kara I can say, okay clean up time and she get's right on it. Kaden, not so much.  With him, he has to play with each toy one last time as he puts it away and forget about leaving the room.  If I'm not in the room it must mean no cleaning needs to be done in his nutt-y world.  It is hard though, to look into his angelic, happy face and not smile and try again and again to encourage him to clean up.  I am happy to report, I am learning to enjoy this time with him and not be as quick to anger that he is not cleaning up at my speed.  Instead, I am discovering Kaden's speed and that is just fine.
