Huzzah! Huzzah! Fun was had!

Huzzah!  What a week for the Nutt House!  We started off with some amazing feats at tumbling class and at dinner where three Nutts all ate at the same time.  We started off with some wild times, like the first running in the sprinklers of the year.  Now, what better way is there than to kick off weather good enough to play in the sprinklers than to do it naked?  Apparently, at the Nutt House, there isn’t a better way.  We had our bonding moments when I slipped away for an evening and the three other Nutts spent quality time watching Star Wars.  We now have a proud daddy Nutt in our home.

While this is awesome her back bend has improved leaps & bounds!

Under normal circumstances I say eating with chopsticks is a talent, but this is just too much!

Nutts in this picture are happier than they appear

While all of this was fun, the highlight of our week.  The event we waited all week for came yesterday when we ventured out to Arizona Renaissance Festival.  Having lived here just a couple years the only thing I knew about the Renaissance Festival for sure is that you could purchase discounted tickets at Fry’s grocery store.  Well, I knew that and that it was something Brent had and would enjoy.  We came up with a plan, we were going to leave early in the morning and anticipated with the attention span of our little Nutts we’d only be there for a couple of hours.  Well, what good are plans if they can’t be broken, right?
After Kara fixed us a delicious breakfast (scrambled eggs with a little fresh squeezed orange juice added for an extra pop of flavor), showers were taken and such we didn’t leave until almost an hour later than we wanted to.  Still, our spirits were high as we made the journey out east to the festival.  Once there, our eyes were opened to a whole new world.

And, this is how Kara occupied herself on the way...  creative pen tattooing on the nose, arms, and legs
Upon walking in we were transported to a different age with plenty of wares for sale, foods to try, shows to see and things to do.  Upon getting our bearings our journey began with the purchase of a flower crown for our own Princess Nutt.  After selecting just the right crown and having it fit to her head we toured the grounds visiting Old Mother Goose then stopping to watch the end of a fire whip show.  After seeing the end of that and viewing more of the shops and wares we settled on a snack that may not have been period authentic but was perfect for the warm day….  Ice cream.  We took our refreshments over to a grassy area where as we ate we were treated to a birds of prey show that consisted of hawks, owls, buzzard, and vultures.  With the rest, a treat in our bellies, and our energy levels refreshed we continued on absorbing all we could see.

Don't let the picture fool you, she was not pleased

The next stop on our adventure was at the show of a juggler.  What a talented performer he was, and as a much needed and appreciated bonus – his show was kid friendly!  We watched as he juggled fire sticks, juggled several hats, spinned plates, and balanced several objects off of his chest.  Kaden was in awe as he watched the show and Kara was all a giggle at the silly parts.  My hope is this quenches the desire for the little Nutt’s to see juggling as Brent’s one object at a time and my two object at a time juggling is mediocre at best.
Kaden stood most of the show, simply captivated

After the show, we saw just the shop for Kaden where he selected just the right sword and shield for his own knight and pirate escapades.  After inadvertently hitting many people and having had his first sword fight today after church I can honestly say Kaden loves what he walked away from the day with.

He really does enjoy it more than the picture lets on
Close by we saw a kid’s area consisting of several animals to pet and feed.  Our little Nutt’s were timid at first, but after watching their Nutt-y parents feed the animals they determined it was safe to feed the animals as well and enjoyed each minute of feeding the lambs.  The delight you could see in their faces as their hands were tickled by the tongues of the lambs was so very tender.

Noticing the time and knowing one thing that was a must on our list was seeing a jousting show we tackled the crowds across the festival to the jousting arena where we secured our seats in the shade.  While we waited for the show Brent grabbed some food for our hungry bellies and together we tried a turkey leg, which was enjoyed by three out of four Nutts (Kaden was the lone holdout), enjoyed some pretzels and devoured a caramel apple.  Once our hunger was satisfied it was time for the jousting to begin.  What a show!   With many huzzahs, cheers, and claps from each Nutt we cheered our knight onto victory of the event.

Man I love this man

Our brave, victorious knight

By now, we had stayed much longer than we had anticipated but with much much more to see and do we knew it was time to start the long journey toward the exit.  On our way there was a stop at the giant boat swing where Kara enjoyed the ride up until Kaden did not.  Kaden didn’t want to go fast and of course, Kara did.

With the ride over we found time for one last show where we watched a glass blower make a stunning vase.  The timing of getting to see this was great as Kara had been asking just a few weeks ago how glass was made.  She sat on the edge of the seat for most of the show as the glass blower artistically crafted the vase that I dreamed of bringing home with us.
I am now and will forever be in awe of this talent

As we said good-bye to a long, but still too short of a fun filled day we made a couple last minute purchased acquiring a bright pink feather fan for Kara and a little pastry for each of us.  At the exit we saw a street performer that took me back to Jackson Square in New Orleans.  The type of performer that stands statuesque until a tip is dropped in his jar.  As the kiddos each dropped a dollar into his jar he slowly moved making creaking noises with each bend and twist.  As he did, he reached in a pocket producing two handmade flowers that he squirted with scent then bent down to hand to the kids.  What a delightful end to our entertaining day.

You know it was a success when on the drive home we were already scheming on how we can improve on the experience for next year.  This Nutt House is hooked and can’t wait for next year’s voyage to the Arizona Renaissance Festival.
